ECA Europe’s financial guardian

Author(s):

“The ECA’s role of external auditor of the EU is more important than ever in its 35-year history”, said the European Court of Auditors’ President Caldeira, at the inauguration of the ECA’s new building in Luxembourg. ECA has been Europe’s financial guardian for the last 35 years.

We must work together to restore our citizens’ trust in European institutions and authorities pointed out President Caldeira at the inauguration ceremony. “To do that, we must build a more accountable Union than the one we have today - a Union capable of showing that Europe works and that it achieves its aim to promote peace, its values and the well-being of its peoples. European citizens can count on their Court of Auditors to do its utmost to work towards that goal” said the President

Luxembourg Prime Minister Juncker underlined that ECA’s mission is more vital than ever. ECA is Europe’s financial guardian and serves as the Court of European citizens and taxpayers.  “Political mentality needs to change at all levels so as to ensure greater budgetary responsibility, also as far as individual citizens are concerned" said Junker.

Irish Minister of State Perry: “The European Court of Auditors has a distinct and essential role in bolstering public confidence in the institutions that Europe has built over those 63 years. That confidence is central to our Union’s functioning.”
